I earned my bachelor’s degree at Allegheny College, a premier liberal arts college renowned for its graduates’ ability to think analytically and creatively. I was the quintessential liberal arts major. Today, I’m grateful for my ongoing interest in a wide variety of subjects, because creative solutions to problems are often found at the nexus of a number of disciplines, or at the point where seemingly disparate ideas overlap.
After college, I worked at a New York university that uniquely combined conservatory training in the visual and performing arts with liberal arts and sciences programs. I then moved to Washington, DC, to work for a documentary filmmaker. During my time in the nation’s capital, I worked in publications and media for the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at the Library of Congress and in public affairs at the National Cathedral. This gave me a real sense of how people operate inside the Beltway and what makes Washington tick.
I left DC to attend the Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars, where I taught while earning my master’s degree. I more fully developed my research, analysis, and critical thinking skills, as well as my ability to distill and synthesize complex subject matter. After graduating, I worked in marketing at the Johns Hopkins University School of Continuing Studies.
Since moving to Maine, I have worked in various marketing communications capacities for such well-known businesses and organizations as Geiger and Sweetser. I’ve also served as the executive director of the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. For the past decade, I’ve helped countless clients through my business, The Write Approach. In this role, I’ve had the privilege to provide an array of dynamic and sophisticated communications services to agencies, entrepreneurs, mission-driven businesses, and nonprofit organizations throughout northern New England and as far away as Australia.
Today, I live in central Maine on the banks of the Kennebec, a tidal river. I get to see eagles soaring above me almost every day. I’m inspired by their determination, majesty, tenacity, and resilience. They serve as the inspiration for the higher elevation and greater visibility I seek for my clients, to help them grow, improve, and achieve greater momentum.
But enough about me. I’d much rather talk about you and the communications challenges you face. Let’s talk. Please get in touch with me.
